1 November - Todos Santos in Bolivia
For a few weeks, Bolivians have been preparing for a tradition that connects them with their loved ones who have passed away. In the culture of the Andean country, this is a time to think about life beyond death.
Bolivian tradition says that on November 1 the souls of the deceased descend to earth to enjoy an altar installed by their families with various elements that are characteristic of this celebration and that recall what life was like for the one who departed. Many of these beliefs are similar to the Day of the Dead in Mexico.
On tables prepared in honor of the deceased, their photograph, favorite food and drink, special breads known as "t'antawawas", pastries, sweets, flowers, water and, of course, a crucifix, a central symbol of religion, are placed (Catholic).
