10 October - Arbor Day in Poland
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in 1951 established World Tree Day in all member countries. In Poland, the holiday has been celebrated since 2003 on October 10. The day is organized by environmental associations, educational institutions and forest districts. On this Day, tree planting actions and educational programs are initiated. Tree Day is also an ecological education program of Klub Gaja, which has been implemented since 2003 and begins with a nationwide and international tree planting campaign. Since 2007, the program has been participating in the Billion Trees for the Planet Campaign initiated by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP). The Tree Day program was recommended by the Ministry of the Environment as a good practice in education for sustainable development at the COP14 climate conference and by the Institute of Civic Affairs in the "Civic Inspirator" as an example of good practice in the field of informal civic education.
