The choice of the date was very interesting, since it coincides with the day Christopher Columbus discovered the Americas. In addition, Children's Day is a national holiday thanks to a coincidence: it is celebrated together with the day of Our Lady of Conception Aparecida, the patron saint of Brazil.
Our Lady of Conception Aparecida, popularly called Our Lady of Conception Aparecida, is the patron saint of Brazil. Venerated in the Catholic Church, Our Lady of Conception Aparecida is represented by a small terracotta image of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception, currently housed in the Basilica Cathedral of Our Lady of Conception Aparecida, located in the city of Aparecida, in São Paulo.
Her liturgical feast day is celebrated on October 12, a national holiday in Brazil since 1980, when Pope John Paul II consecrated the basilica, which is the fourth most visited Marian shrine in the world, capable of holding up to 30,000 faithful.
