October 25 commemorates one of the key events in the process of Slovenian independence, when the last soldier of the Yugoslav People's Army left the Slovenian territory after the war of independence - Dan suverenosti, Sovereignty Day.
The first embarkation of Yugoslav People's Army units at the Port of Koper began on October 21, when the training ship Galeb sailed from the port. On the night of October 25-26, 1991, the last calls were heard from a megaphone in the harbor for the soldiers to board the ship Venus as soon as possible and leave Slovenian territory. The ship Venus sailed from the Port of Koper a few minutes after midnight.
By fighting the aggressor, the Slovenians demonstrated a high sense of connectedness and unity.
