Juliette Gordon Low (1860–1927), also affectionately known by her nickname “Daisy,” founded Girl Scouts of the USA in 1912. Daisy started the first troop in Savannah, Georgia, which was her home. You can visit her birthplace if you go to Savannah.
The motto of this first group was “Be prepared.” This girl scouting group grew from 70 thousand members in 1920 to 3.7 million members in 2005. The slogan of Girl Guides of America was “Do a good turn daily.”
