21 November - International Beaujolais Day
Traditionally, Beaujolais Nouveau Day is celebrated in the French region of Beaujolais (30 kilometres northeast of Lyon) on the third Thursday in November to mark the first release of Beaujolais nouveau wine.
Beaujolais nouveau's unique fruitiness and drinkability come from a winemaking process called carbonic maceration. Rather than being destemmed upon arrival at the winery, the gamay grapes are left in whole bunches. The bunches are put into closed fermenter tanks, which are pumped full of carbon dioxide gas.
Most wines in fact, don't need aeration as much as people think. The following reds, as noble and wonderful as they are, do not need fancy decanters: Light-bodied, naturally less tannic reds such as: Pinot Noir, Burgundy, Beaujolais, and Cotes du Rhone, lighter Zinfandels, and lighter-bodied Chiantis, and Dolcettos.
