The Johor is one of the most developed states in Malaysia. The capital city and royal seat of Johor is Johor Bahru, once known as Tanjung Puteri. The old state capital is Johor Lama.
Al-Mutawakkil Alallah Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj ibni Almarhum Sultan Ismail (8 April 1932 – 22 January 2010) was the 24th Sultan of Johor and the 4th Sultan of Modern Johor. He succeeded his father Sultan Ismail upon the latter's death on 10 May 1981. He was the eighth Yang di-Pertuan Agong (Supreme King or High King) of Malaysia from 26 April 1984 to 25 April 1989. Sultan Iskandar's reign lasted for almost 29 years until his death in January 2010.
Five years after ascending the throne, Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar will be officially coronated on Monday, March 23, in a ceremony that will be the first in 55 years for Malaysia's southern state. To mark the occasion, the day has been declared a public holiday and street parades, concerts and sporting competitions are just some of the major events that have been lined up.
