4 September - National Polycystic Kidney Disease Awareness Day in Canada
Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is one of the most common life-threatening genetic diseases, affecting approximately 1 in 400 to 1 in 1,000. It kills more people each year than breast or prostate cancer. While the risk of illness increases with age, research suggests that one of the biggest health concerns for seniors is chronic kidney disease. While early kidney disease has no signs or symptoms, simple blood and urine tests can tell how well your kidneys are working.
In September of each year, people in and all across Ontario, are encouraged to learn more about these chronic kidney diseases and to support the challenges faced by people living with them.
