The sovereign's birthday was first officially marked in the Kingdom of Great Britain in 1748, for King George II. Trinidad and Tobago obtained independence in 1962, becoming a republic in 1976.
The Constitution is the supreme law of Trinidad and Tobago and all other pieces of legislation must be in conformity with it.
