13 January - Rubber Duckie Day
Rubber ducks were invented in the late 1800s when it became possible to more easily shape rubber, and are believed to improve developmental skills in children during water play. Rubber ducks were originally chew toys and did not float. Yellow rubber ducks as we know them were created by a sculptor, believed to be Peter Ganine, in the 1940s.
Rubber ducks have become the iconic fundraiser toy, probably because they're so adaptable. They can be tossed and they can float, opening up the possibilities for fun games. Rubber duck needs air inside of it to balance out the fluid flow of the water inside of the bath tub.
World's Largest Rubber Duck is in Detroit, Michigan. Every Jan. 13, National Rubber Ducky Day is celebrated to pay tribute to the rubber duck toy that is likely found in nearly every household in the country.
