International Nose Picking Day
International Nose Picking Day is held on April 23. This event in the third decade of the month April is annual. Help us
The technical term for nose picking is rhinotillexis. Nose-picking is an extremely widespread habit: some surveys indicate that it is almost universal, with people picking their nose on average about four times a day. April 23 is International Nose Picking Day, also known National Nose Picking Day in the USA. Our research did not find the creator, or the origin of this day... While it may be disgusting, we all do it.
Seriously. Ninety-one percent of respondents from a 1995 survey said they pick their nose. Mucous membranes produce wet mucus to help remove dust and pathogens as someone breathes. And who will remove them? Chances are high that you have celebrated this holiday on more days than just today.
Mucus catches dust, bacteria, viruses, and dust that you breathe in every day. You could share those germs if you pick your nose. One study found that nose pickers may spread the bacterium that's responsible for a large amount of pneumonia.
