20 June - American Eagle Day
The American eagle, also called the Bald eagle, was close to extinction at one time but in 1995, it was removed from the Endangered Species list. American Eagle Day is a special day to commemorate the anniversary of the bald eagle's selection as US National Symbol and to celebrate its return to America's skies. Proclamations have been issued by governors in 49 states designating June 20th as American Eagle Day.
Bald Eagles can be found in all of the contiguous United States, and in most of Alaska. They also nest and hunt in parts of Canada, and northern Mexico.
