August Thursday is a national holiday in Anguilla, this British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean on the Thursday after the first Monday in August. This holiday takes place during the Anguilla Summer Festival, the last ten days of the Carnival.
The Valley streets awake early, and I mean pre-dawn, alive with the sounds of Soca and Calypso vibrating from popular local bands. Hundreds of people congregate in The Valley early Monday morning to prepare the August Monday parade floats, which carry these local bands. They get ready to travel for the "Road March" all the way from The Valley to Sandy Ground.
