The city of Liège also celebrates July 14, in reference to the French Revolution, with more enthusiasm than it will show next Sunday for the Belgian national holiday. It was in 1937 that the city decided to celebrate the French National Day in order to protest against Belgium's policy of neutrality vis-à-vis Nazi Germany and against the denunciation of the Franco-Belgian military agreement by the government. .
