1 September - Kirani Day in Grenada
Grenada is very small. Home to a Blend of Cultures. Not a lot of people live here. It is an island found in in the Caribbean, or West Indies, widely known for its spices, giving it its common nickname as the Spice Isle. Grenada is home to the world's first underwater garden. The Grenada dove is critically endangered.
In 1763, our mainland was named Grenada when the British gained control from the French who had named the country La Grenada. The name originates from Granada given by the Spaniards in the 1520s.
Grenada shares a common Caribbean culture base with many other islands in the Lesser Antilles, including music, literature, greetings and salutations, food, and family structure. Not unlike the United States, ethnic groups remain somewhat segregated on Grenada.
