Psychologist's Day in Chile

The psychologist's day commemoration in Chile is one of the most important milestones of psychology in Chile, which is repeated periodically every year, however, the date of the celebration was under discussion by a group of Chilean members of the Interamerican Society of Psychology. This document tries to explain some reflections and arguments about why we should celebrate the psychologist's day on December 9 and not on November 9, as it is usually realized. The argument tries to position from the empirical paradigm, from the historical evidence, more that to repeat a social act devoid of meaning and significance for psychology in Chile.

Respecto a la celebración del Día del Psicólogo en Chile, no existen hipótesis explicativas fundantes concluyentes que permitan indicar por qué se celebra los 9 de Noviembre, coincidentemente un mes antes que se promulgara la Ley 17.033 del 9 de Diciembre de 1968, que concibe formalmente la creación oficial del Colegio de Psicólogos de Chile (SALAS, 2002, 2008, 2009; SALAS y LIZAMA, 2009; LUCO, 2010) y firmara el entonces Presidente de la República, Eduardo Frei Montalva.
