The day of the cross is celebrated on May 3 in El Salvador, this celebration is the result of the union of a Spanish religious tradition, known as "the celebration of the holy cross", which commemorates the meeting that Saint Elena of the cross of Jesus Christ and a tribute of indigenous origin to the land and to the god of the skinned, Xipe Tótec.
This tradition is based on taking a cross made of jiote stick and decorating it with colorful materials, mainly Chinese paper, in the form of a curtain or in waves around the cross. In turn, various flowers and fruits such as mango, oranges and bananas are placed at the foot of the cross. This piece is placed in the patios of the houses so that the home is filled with blessings, each person must kneel in front of the cross, cross themselves and then eat a fruit that is at the foot of the cross.
