Who is Mario?

Mario is an Italian plumber, who has been part of the gamer world for many years. He is the protagonist of Nintendo's video game saga, the most popular of which is "Super Mario Bros". Because of the frequent designation of Mario and his brother Luigi with the collective term "Mario Brothers," there were rumors that his full name was Mario Mario. In the 1980s Nintendo officially stated that neither Mario nor Luigi had a last name, but on September 14, 2015 (during the thirtieth anniversary of the Super Mario series) Shigeru Miyamoto officially announced that Mario's full name was Mario - Mario Mario and Luigi was Luigi Mario.

This game, as well known as famous, was first released in Japan on September 13, 1985 by Nintendo, revolutionizing the video game industry. It became so popular that it now has movies, cartoons, even a theme park and an avenue named after him!

Initially, Mario was a character from the game Donkey Kong (called Jumpman), created by Shigeru Miyamoto for Nintendo in 1981. He was a carpenter who had to jump over barrels to save Princess Pauline.

Do you know where his unique mustache or moustache comes from? This characteristic feature of Mario is due to the 8-bit graphic limitation of the game machines of that time, providing a very noticeable element to this cute character.
