Psychologist Day in Dominican Republic
Psychologist Day in Dominican Republic is held on April 6. This event in the first decade of the month April is annual. Help us
It is since 1975 that April 6 is designated as the date to commemorate the national day for all psychologists in the country, a profession dedicated to the study of human behavior that helps us to better focus our life, behavior and attitude. This date coincides with the founding of the Dominican Association of Psychology (ADOPSI), which became the Dominican College of Psychologists (CODOPSI), by virtue of Law 22-01 in February 2001.
Professional training in psychology had begun in the Dominican Republic some years earlier, in 1967, when, almost simultaneously, the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD, official) and the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU, private), each created a department of psychology, within the environment of opening and growth of the higher education system in this country, after the end of the Trujillo dictatorship.
Prior to these institutionalization processes, during the 1940s, psychological topics began to be addressed in courses taught at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Santo Domingo, with subjects such as General, Abnormal, Applied and Educational Psychology.
