Honduran Journalist's Day

It is worth noting that before 2020, the statistics for this dangerous work were as follows: over 90 people were injured, 95.6% of male journalists murdered, compared to 4.4% of female journalists, it also mentions that 91.1% of the deaths were with firearms, and the departments most affected have been Francisco Morazán and Puerto Cortés.

This May 25, Honduran Journalists' Day, we celebrate and congratulate the journalists and social communicators who every day inform the Honduran society in a truthful, objective and timely manner, but we also have the moral duty to remember and pay tribute to the more than 90 communicators, journalists and media personnel who, according to data from the Observatory of Violence of the UNAH, have been murdered in the last years in Honduras.

In Honduras, this date dedicated to journalists has been celebrated every May 25 since 1930 and it was not chosen at random. On May 25, 1830, the first newspaper printed in the country, "La Gaceta del Gobierno", was published and one hundred years later, on the same date, the First National Congress of Journalists was held.
