29 May - National Meat Day in Uruguay
The National Meat Institute (INAC) celebrates every May 29th the National Meat Day in commemoration of the first voyage of the ship "Le Frigorifique" across the Atlantic carrying frozen meat from the Río de la Plata to Europe in 1876.
This date is considered a milestone because it marks the beginning of a true industrial revolution.
The inventor of the mechanical refrigeration system and owner of the ship, the engineer Charles Tellier, was accompanied by two Uruguayans who collaborated in this project: Francisco Lecocq and Federico Nin Reyes.
The Board of INAC established this date by resolution in the 80s, in order to be a day of dissemination of the importance of meat in the human diet.
In this sense, the National Meat Institute is disseminating on social networks and websites the interviews with experts on Human Health and Nutrition that took place during the World Meat Congress in Punta del Este.
