Created by the National Institute of Civil Defense of Peru in commemoration of the 1970 Ancash Earthquake, in memory of its victims and with the purpose of raising awareness about the responsible attitude towards natural disasters in the country.
May 31 is the 1970 Ancash earthquake, which caused the death of more than 60,000 people and left some 180,000 injured.
