30 November - International Day for Action against Eating Disorders
November 30 is the International Day for the fight against eating disorders, which is identified under the symbol of a blue ribbon. This proposal, which has been held annually for years, aims to highlight the importance of prevention and early detection of this type of eating disorders and to avoid the stigmatization and excessive social judgments that often surround this type of disease.
On the other hand, recent research seems to indicate that, on many occasions, people suffering from an ED present other added symptomatology. Specifically, it has been reported that between 55 and 97% of people diagnosed with ED have at least one other psychiatric diagnosis (Murcia, 2009 and Zúñiga, 2009). The most frequently associated disorders are depressive, anxiety and personality disorders. For this reason, recovery from an ED can be hampered by the associated mood problems that can appear throughout the process.
