The Panamanian Physicist's Day is commemorated on June 13 in honor of Dr. Bernardo Lombardo, the first Panamanian physicist, who was a pioneer in nuclear physics, medical physics, computer science and the teaching of physics in Panama.
Bernardo Lombardo was the first Panamanian to obtain a degree in Physics in the Republic of Panama. He was Dean of the Faculty of Sciences and twice Rector of the University of Panama. For his contributions to this discipline, the Panamanian Society of Physics designated him Father of Physics in Panama in 2004.
