Personal Mobility Vehicle Day in Spain

PMV is defined as all those Personal Mobility Vehicles equipped with one or two wheels and a single seat propelled exclusively by electric motors that can provide the vehicle with a maximum speed by design comprised between 6 and 25 km/h (DGT, 2019).

The king of these vehicles is the electric scooter, a vehicle that is here to stay and that, at the behest of the Spanish Federation of Personal Mobility Vehicles, celebrates its world day on July 10 to vindicate the use of the PMV as a safe, sustainable and environmentally friendly means of transport.

Scooters are the focus of intense media attention, generating a false and exaggerated perception of risk and safety, taking into account the reality of the accident rate data - 80% of accidents on urban roads involve a 4-wheeled vehicle. Its user profile -young and male- also contributes to reinforce this idea of association with risk and lack of safety.

Leaving aside judgments and sticking to behaviors, the reality is that the majority of PMV drivers comply with traffic regulations.
