On August 1, Marvel celebrates Spider-Man's significance as a hero and symbol. It is the date of the character's first appearance in Amazing Fantasy. Beyond the cinematic success of his adaptations, New York's friendly neighbor is a fresh face of power and the responsibility that comes with it.

For Marvel, August 1 is the ideal time to celebrate the comic book arrival of one of its seminal figures. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, he first appeared in Amazing Fantasy (1962) and changed the meaning of superheroes. In particular, the look towards characters with extraordinary powers. Peter Parker, an ordinary teenager with glasses and all kinds of problems, became the face of the ordinary man. Also, in the way the house of ideas celebrated the sense of responsibility over formidable abilities and their relationship to the world.

Spider-Man was not a great scientist, though he was a brilliant guy. He had financial and even skin problems. At a time when DC Comics, Marvel's traditional rival, popularized incorruptible, powerful and idealistic characters, the arachnid superhero was a novelty.
