Liberator Bernardo O'Higgins' Birth Day in Chile

The Birth of the Independence Hero, also known as the Birth of the Liberator General Bernardo O'Higgins, is a Chilean holiday that commemorates the birth of the country's hero, Bernardo O'Higgins, on August 20, 1778.

The official celebrations are centered in the Bernardo O'Higgins Monumental Park and in the Plaza Isabel Riquelme in Chillán Viejo, where a military and civilian parade is held, with the presence of national and local authorities.

This holiday was created in 1966, valid only in the commune of Chillán and limited to the school environment; since 2014, it is a holiday for all legal purposes in the communes of Chillán and Chillán Viejo, which make up the city of Chillán.
