21 August - Patronal feast in honor of St. Bonoso and St. Maximiano
Every year the residents of Arjona commemorate the appearance of the relics of their patron saints in 1628, Maximilian and Bonoso, who died on August 21, 308, beheaded for defending their Christian faith at the hands of Daciano, a delegate of the emperor of Rome.
Thus, throughout the month an extensive program of cultural and sporting events gives way to various ritual events that take place between August 11 and 24. The celebration begins with the so-called "Campanica de turrón", when the bells ring and candies are thrown from the bell tower for the little ones and their families, also protagonists of the 19th, when they parade to the Cemetery of the Martyrs carrying lanterns that, made with melon, revive the mysterious lights seen in 1628.
After this, the "Burning of Daciano" is carried out, a wimp that represents the person responsible for the martyrdom of the saints, whose images and relics, their thrones adorned with nards as an offering, procession through the streets on two occasions, on the feast day of that event on the 21st and the following day. The last acts are "the Race" in the Paseo de San Martin and "the Offering" or public realization of donations to the brotherhood.
If there is something that characterizes the activity is, along with multiple elements that make it unique, its organization by stewardship, wearing the members of the Board, all men, black morning coat, white shirt, red tie and a characteristic black hat with two peaks; They are present in all the parades and acts of liturgical character and are in charge of "throwing the flag" for the collection of donations to cover the expenses incurred, in which, according to the traditional way, each neighbor is weighed in a Roman and pays its weight with money, being wrapped at that moment with a flag to picaresquely increase the amount, while the band plays four bars of the Hymn of the Saints.
