27 September - Feast in honor of Christ of Peace
The Feast of Christ Peace is celebrated in the Spanish city of Palomares del Campo (Cuenca).
A special feature of this festival is the ceremony of the Exaltation of the Cross, which takes place after the Orthros and in which a cross decorated with flowers is carried in procession through the nave.
The following cities celebrate their festivals or fairs on this day: Albalate de Zorita, Guadalajara - Festival in honor of the Holy Cross; Alguair (Lerida) - Festival in honor of San Saturnino; Alpes (Barcelona) holds the main party; Bagües (Zaragoza) - Festival in honor of Virgen de la Paruela; Binisalem (Balearic Islands) - Harvest Festival; Brion (La Coruña) - Santa Minia Festival; Canet de Adri (Girona) - Main Festival; Castrocerna de Abajo (Segovia) - Festival in honor of Virgen de los Remedios; El Padul (Granada) - Royal Livestock Fair and festivals; Encio (Burgos) and Grisalenha (Burgos); Jaraba (Zaragoza), festival in honor of San Vicente;Las Quintanillas (Burgos), festival of San Facundo and San Primitivo; Matavenero and Poibueno (Torre del Bierzo, Leon), celebrations on the anniversary of the settlement of the city; Matute de Almasan (Matamala de Almasan, Soria) - Feasts of the patron saint in honor of Virgen de la Carrera; Mayorga (Valladolid) - Feasts in honor of Santo Toribio Alfonso de Mogrovejo; Mosarejos (Remember, Soria); Mozota (Granada) - Feasts in honor of Santicos (Santicos: San Benito, San Celestino, San Constantino, Santa Victoria, Santa Faustina and Santa Modesta); Orjiva (Granada) - Royal fairs and festivals.
The Solemnity of the Exaltation of the Cross marks a turning point in the Orthodox church year: this is when the post-Pentecost period of fulfillment turns into the pre-Easter period of expectation. This is signaled in particular by the new series of Gospel pericopes from the Gospel of Luke. The feast itself originated from a joint celebration of the consecration of the Basilica of the Resurrection (Church of the Holy Sepulchre) in Jerusalem, which was consecrated on September 13, 335, and was already being celebrated there at the end of the fourth century.
