25 October - World Short People's Day
October 25, World Short People's Day, is an opportunity for short people to come together to claim their rights and demand their fulfillment.
The date was chosen in honor of the American actor William John Bertanzetti, better known as Billy Barty, one of the first people to work for the rights of short people.
A "short person" is defined as an individual with some type of dwarfism, of which there are more than 200 types, most of which are unknown to science. They are regularly diagnosed with achondroplasia, a genetic disorder of bone growth, which occurs in one in 25,000 live births.
Throughout history they have been called "dwarfs", a word that denigrates and offends them because of the derogatory connotations towards their individuality.
This celebration seeks the recognition of this segment of the population, their equality and social inclusion and respect for human rights.
