5 November - Civil Aviation Day in Argentina
The Civil Aviation Day is celebrated on November 5 since 1991 in honor and remembrance of the birth of Don Aaron Félix Martín de Anchorena, who was born in Buenos Aires on November 5, 1877.
In 1901, Aaron participated in the first automobile competition held in Buenos Aires at the National Hippodrome located in the lower part of Belgrano.
In 1902 he toured Patagonia on horseback, met with the expert Francisco Pascasio Moreno and reached Lake Nahuel Huapi and Victoria Island, which he requested to acquire in order to plant a park with all the coniferous species on the planet.
After he had completed the work, the National Congress denied him the cession of the island, but even today you can still admire the magnificent forest that thanks to his generosity he left for the delight of future generations.
In 1905, while he was ad-honorem Secretary of the Argentine Legation in France, he flew in an aerostat with the Brazilian Santos Dumont.
Following the impulses of his adventurous spirit, he joined the Aero Club of France.
At the Saint Cloud field of that entity, he received instruction from another famous aeronaut, Paul Tissandier. He obtained the brevet of Balloon Pilot and completed eleven flights, seven of them with a spherical with silk envelope, of 1200 m3, that he acquired in the same factory that built those of Santos Dumont. He baptized it with the name of a characteristic wind of his country: Pampero.
In July 1907, Aaron brought his balloon to Argentina.
