Argentine Merchant Marine Day

Today, November 25, is Merchant Marine Day. This date is commemorated for being the day of the creation of the National Nautical School "Manuel Belgrano", a component unit of the General Directorate of Education of the Argentine Navy.

The institute of higher education was born in 1799 as an initiative of Manuel Belgrano.

The purpose of this educational establishment is to train officers of the Merchant Navy in all the specialties required by the service of overseas vessels. It provides students with an integral preparation that allows them to efficiently conduct and maintain ships.

Merchant Marine officers work on merchant ships, both national and of other flags, whose main task is the transportation of goods within and outside our territory. Thus, they are essential for foreign trade and for the growth of our country, forming a fundamental part of the National Maritime Interests.
