18 December - National Multiple Sclerosis Day in Spain
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is the most common chronic inflammatory disease of the central nervous system in young adults. Unlike other neurological pathologies, it is diagnosed at a very early age, between 20 and 40 years old, at a time in life when people begin to plan their future. MS, which is heterogeneous, variable and unpredictable, plunges them into the uncertainty of not knowing what will happen tomorrow. This uncertainty is compounded by the social misunderstanding of the disease, characterized by the fact that it manifests itself through a wide range of symptoms, which vary from one patient to another and are often "invisible".
This is the complex reality that the 55,000 people with MS in Spain and their families live with every year.
The Spanish Multiple Sclerosis Association (AEDEM-COCEMFE) and its 46 associations officially celebrate every December 18, the National Multiple Sclerosis Day, by carrying out different activities to raise awareness and sensitize society about the situation of people living with this disease.
