Jackson Day in the United States

Jackson Day is celebrated on January 8 in the United States. This day commemorates the Battle of New Orleans, which is an episode in the struggle of the American people to achieve their independence from the British government.

In reality, it is not composed of a single battle, but of a series of battles during the period from December 1814 to January 1815. The American victory in this region forced the British to recognize the claims of the United States on Louisiana and the western part of Florida, which gives origin to the end of the American War of Independence and to the political incorporation of the state of Louisiana to the Union. Major Andrew Jackson led the American forces during this so-called "Gulf" campaign.
