Game design is the process of designing the content, background and rules of a game and any interactive recreational system. Professional game designers specialize in certain types of games, such as board games, card games or video games, as well as in certain areas that require interaction between a person and a system. They help facilitate interaction between players, whether for medical, military, educational or entertainment purposes. Game design tends to be applied mainly to virtual environments, although it is still used to develop games outside the virtual space, as well as being used to create interactive systems outside the gaming area.
Many professionals in the field of game design celebrate their professional holiday, Game Designers' Day, on April 27, World Design Day. The international holiday is celebrated on April 27 and recalls the establishment of the International Council of Graphic Design Associations in 1966 in London.
