15 October - International Pronouns Day
Each year, every third Wednesday of October is International Pronouns Day – a day that seeks to make respecting, sharing, and educating about personal pronouns commonplace. International Pronouns Day began in 2018.
Referring to people by the pronouns they determine for themselves is basic to human dignity. Being referred to by the wrong pronouns particularly affects transgender and gender nonconforming people. Together, we can transform society to celebrate people’s multiple, intersecting identities.
The GLSEN organization explained, "pronouns give everyone the opportunity to identify themselves instead of accepting the appeals that others use. Including correct pronouns in speech is the first step to respecting identity and creating a more welcoming space for people of all genders".
