21 March - Arbor Day in Portugal
On this day various tree planting and reforestation actions take place in various locations around the world. The celebration of World Arbor Day or World Forest Day began on April 10, 1872, in the North American state of Nebraska (USA). Its mentor was journalist and politician Julius Sterling Morton, who encouraged the orderly planting of trees in Nebraska by promoting "Arbor Day".
In Portugal, the 1st Arbor Day was celebrated on March 9, 1913, and the first "World Forest Day" was held in Portugal in 1974, when March 21, the first day of spring, was chosen, like many other countries in the northern hemisphere.
