It is a tradition that harks back to what is already attested in 10th-century documents that testify how the city made the beginning of the New Year coincide with the Annunciation to the Virgin Mary of the Incarnation of Jesus. To celebrate the date, the City of Pisa has organized a series of initiatives.

"We want to live this New Year's Eve in the Pisan style, trying to revive what has found so many obstacles in the past two years," explains Filippo Bedini, councillor for traditions of the history and identity of Pisa. "We are convinced that in order to build the future with awareness and intelligence, it is necessary to know and make known the past, traditions, customs and events of the community."
