Mother's Day in Paraguay (Día de la Madre) is celebrated every May 15 in honor of the 'Mother Country'. The main event for which this day of celebration was selected is the festivity of Independence, with which the date coincides.
This turning point in Paraguayan history took place between the night of May 14 and the early morning of May 15, 1811, when Pedro Juan Caballero, Fulgencio Yegros, Vicente Ignacio Iturbe and José Gaspar Rodríguez de Francia, among others, developed the revolutionary plans in the house of the Martínez Sáenz family, currently known as the Casa de la Independencia.
According to some historians, in Paraguay May 15 is remembered in tribute to Juana de Lara, who along with the heroes was the protagonist of the nation's independence. But some historians rule out the relationship of the commemoration of Mother's Day with Juana de Lara, in fact, she was declared a National Hero in 2010 by Law 4,082/2010.
