Democracy Day in Cape Verde

Democracy Day is a public holiday in the Republic of Cape Verde observed on January 13th each year. This holiday commemorates the first democratic elections, held in this African island nation on January 13, 1991.

The MPD defeated the PAICV with 73.5% of the votes, thereby marking the first democratic elections. Democracy Day was introduced to celebrate this important event in the history of Cabo Verde.
