Among the European settlers in Kiribati were missionaries from various faiths. Today, the predominant denominations of Kiribati are Catholics - 52% and Protestants - 40%. Other religions include Seventh Day Adventists, Muslims, Baha'is, Churches of Latter Day Saints, etc. On the day of the Gospel, a celebration is held in the Catholic and Protestant Churches, which is usually held at the Bairiki National Stadium in the capital of South Tarawa. The joint service is conducted by one of the leaders of the two churches. After the service, the celebration moves to the maneaba (village center), national dances, choir singing and religious hymns are held.
