14 August - Oued Ed-Dahab Day in Morocco
On Monday August 14th 1979, 360 tribal leaders and clerics from Oued Ed-Dahab, visited Rabat, the Kingdom's capital to give the late King Hassan II their oath of allegiance. The oath was seen as a green light for Morocco to annex the region on behalf of the nation.
After this loyalty event, the late sovereign carried out on March 4, 1980, a visit to Dakhla, the capital of Oued Eddahab, where populations directly renewed their allegiance to the King, thus reaffirming their sense of national belonging and their unwavering desire to preserve the unity of the Kingdom, from Tangier to Lagouira.
The commemoration of this anniversary is a happy occasion to remember national values which are the basis Moroccan history and rekindle the sense of citizenship to preserve unity and move forward in the building and development process in various fields.
