Akshay Urja diwas is an awareness campaign about the developments of renewable energy in India, celebrated on August 20 every year since 2004. The Indian Ministry for New & Renewable Energy Sources initiated Akshay Urja Day (Diwas) in 2004.
The campaign was first organized in Delhi by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with the Indian Ministry for New & Renewable Energy Sources (MNRE) as the power station. The event saw 12000-odd school students making a human chain to promote efficient and green energy sources. Solar energy from the sun. Geothermal energy from heat inside the earth. Wind energy. Biomass from plants. All this right here and now!
