26 August - National Heroes' Day in the Philippines
Initially, National Heroes Day was celebrated on November 30 and was held on the birthday of Andres Bonifacio. A few years ago, it was moved to the 4th Monday of August to pay tribute to the known and unknown men and women who sacrifice their lives for the countries’ freedom.
Wreath-laying ceremonies are usually held during the National Heroes Day in the Philippines. This is done in the morning at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (Heroes’ Cemetery) and is mostly replicated in different cities and municipalities in the country.
The Department of Education encourages all public and private schools to include the national heroes in their discussion and re-acquaint their students with the courageous heroes who fought for the country’s freedom.
