Every year, on August 24, the biggest night party in the country takes place where old times are reminisced.
On August 24, one day before the celebration of Uruguay's independence, the country celebrates the Night of Nostalgia (Noche de la Nostalgia). Young people and adults go out to dinner, listen to music and dance to songs from the 70s, 80s, 90s and even the 2000s, which transport them to past times.
This curious party arose in 1978 thanks to the initiative of Pablo Lecueder's program on the radio 'CX 32 Radiomundo'. Lecueder used the eve of the national holiday to commemorate the great hits of the late '60s and early '70s such as Queen, The Beatles and Elvis Presley.
