Solidarity and Freedom Day (Dzień Solidarności i Wolności) - Polish public holiday, celebrated every year on August 31 on the anniversary of the August Agreements, established to commemorate the historic uprising of Poles to freedom and independence in 1980, which initiated the process of the fall of communism and the liberation of the peoples of Central and Eastern Europe.
The culminating point of August 1980 was the signing of agreements in succession - in Szczecin (August 30), Gdańsk (August 31), Jastrzębie-Zdrój (September 3) and Huta Katowice in Dąbrowa Górnicza (September 11). The symbolic date is August 31 - the signing of the agreement in Gdańsk.
