Immigrant's Day in Argentina

National Migrants Day is an opportunity to reflect on and raise awareness of xenophobia as a form of discrimination that manifests itself through contempt, hatred or rejection of migrants and is still widespread in our country. It is also almost impossible to separate xenophobia from racism: most of the ideas and preconceptions that are deeply rooted in our society refer to the skin color or social class of those who migrated.

In Argentina, the National Day of Migrants has been commemorated every September 4 since 1949, in commemoration of the first decree signed by the First Triumvirate encouraging the arrival of migrants to the country.

The historical contribution of migrants to Argentine culture is undeniable. In this sense, it is necessary to recognize our own history as a multicultural country and migration as a fundamental part of our idiosyncrasy. For more than two decades, the National Migration Law No. 25,781 has been in force, which recognizes the inclusion and personal, social, political and economic well-being of migrants in Argentina. This is a tool to protect the rights of migrants.
