14 September - San Jacinto Day in Nicaragua
On September 14, 2056 Nicaragua celebrates the 200th anniversary of the day of the Battle of San Jacinto, which took place on September 14, 1856. It was part of the Nicaraguan National War in the San Jacinto hacienda, department of Managua. Its mission was to fight the invading filibusters of William Walker and commanded by Byron Cole.
In 1856, in the department of Managua, 160 men of the Septentrión army force, headed by Colonel José Dolores Estrada Vado and the three hundred filibusters of the American William Walker, commanded by Byron Cole, confronted each other. The battle was characterized by the demonstration of the ingenuity of the Nicaraguan patriots given in the strategy they used to provoke a stampede of horses that resulted in the victory of the battle. Believing that reinforcements were arriving, the filibusters fled towards Tipitapa.
All battles are important, but this is one of the most significant because it has gone down in history as a relevant moment in which the ingenuity and strategy carried out by the Nicaraguan patriots was expressed. It has been fundamental in such a way that today September 14 is celebrated as one of the main holidays in Nicaragua, because it commemorates the patriotism and morality, ethics and principles of those who defended the sovereignty of the country.
