17 September - Sybirak's Day in Poland
The term "Sybirak" was first applied to the Poles sent to Siberia after the November Uprising of 1830-1831 and the January Uprising of 1863-1864. Siberian Day commemorates the beginning of the Soviet invasion of Poland in 1939 and the subsequent deportation to Siberia of over 300,000 Polish citizens. Recall that in 1932 Poland and the USSR signed the Soviet-Polish non-aggression pact, which the USSR violated on September 17, 1939 without an official declaration of war.
