The teritory of the country consists of five volcanic islands (Tutuila, Aunu’u, and the Manu’a islands of Ofu, Olosega, and Ta’u) and two coral atolls (Rose and Swains atolls). About 78.3% of the American Samoa islands consist of rainforest. American Samoa houses the greatest marine biodiversity of any site in the United States, with over 250 species of coral and 930 species of fish. I’a sa, the Samoan name for sea turtle, means "sacred fish." In Samoan folklore, sea turtles are said to have the power to save fishermen lost at sea by bringing them safely to shore. The country has earned the nickname "Football Island", as the islands produce more American football players than anywhere else in the world. There is no true class system in American Samoa. Chiefs’ titles are ranked to some degree based on centuries old traditions. The Samoan language is part of the Austronesian linguistic family. Samoan is spoken at home, but most residents also speak English. Native born American Samoans are U. S. nationals and are free to travel between the two countries and reside in either.
